Streamy Awards 2010 #fail

Stayed up last night to watch the Streamy Awards.

One of my friends couldn’t have put it any better – ‘I can’t watch any more of this second hand embarrassment’.

First of all they streamed the red carpet which wasn’t bad. Didn’t have much idea about who some of the people were but Ikea was the biggest winner sponsoring the crap out of it. There were technical difficulties but at least they went off air for 30 mins while everyone got seated.

Then it started. Probably the longest start to any Awards show on earth. The jokes were not funny and felt more like they were bashing web content saying there was no money in it, the sound kept dipping and getting louder, the camera looking to the audience showed LOADS of empty seats. Every skit was over rehearsed and extremely badly acted. There were constant voices in the background either from the presenters or the producers.

First award was pretty much the only one I wanted to see for Best Web Series Host and Michael Buckley (WHATTHEBUCKSHOW) from YouTube didn’t win! And then it pretty much went downhill. After 2 ½ hours (including start of red carpet) I think they’d only given out 4 awards of 35!

By the time I stopped watching at 5am the only good parts were 2 guys streaking across the stage, the tweets from the YouTubers that were there, Michael Buckley presenting one of the awards – the winners sang their speech which was amazing! And then when Lisa Nova and some other guy went to present, ShayCarl and Hiimrawn jumped on stage and groped both of them And yay for Shane Dawson winning Best Vlogger.

No idea what time it finished. I heard Buck was supposed to be presenting 18th award and that was already 3 hours into the 35 awards. Not many were left watching the live stream either.

The most disappointing part is reading what Michael had to say about it this morning. They wouldn’t let him take his husband on the red carpet while others were allowed to – they’d travelled 3000 miles to go to the awards. And the after party had no food Can understand there were tech problems and this was only their 2nd Awards so hopefully next years will be so much better.

I'll only be watching if Michael does get to present or up for another award.
