10% tax band now becomes 20% - are you affected?
The decision to abolish the lowest income tax band penalises childless people in low-paid jobs, MPs have said.
The Treasury Select Committee warned the "main losers" could be deprived of as much as £232 a year.
In its report on the Budget, the committee said households without children or anyone over the age of 65, and on incomes of under £18,500 a year, would lose out.

It seems that the worse off workers will be worse off because of this tax change bought in by Gordon Brown in his last budget.
Even if you're not affected by the tax change, what do you think of it?

this has only just caught my eye
we are very affected by it, apparently anyone earning less than 18k a year before tax credits and stuff will be the worst off, we earn less than that so we will be screwed! we are both now looking for new jobs, as many hours as possible to make sure our bills are paid, thanx mr brown!

It's absolutely disgusting

, I like many others are on a very low income and thanks to Gordon Brown will be worse off. I am lucky and must point out that I still live at home with my parents but that's not the point, I still have lots of bills to pay and my 3mth bus pass to pay for out of peanuts. Lisa x

i dont consider you one of the lucky ones lisa, living with parents now means that you will find it harder to get on the property ladder, and you still have bills like the rest of us, we are pretty lucky that my other half has disposable credit that we can rely on if need be, we also get some tax credits and help towards childcare costs if we choose to use it, but it is looking more and more likely that we will both have to work 40+hour weeks (thus resulting in not seeing eachother or the kids) to survive in the future, it seems that those of us that are genuinely 'working class' will be much worse off while these fat cats are actually better off, its like they want families splitting up due to money strains all over again!

I think there was no mistake here too. They knew full well that the poorest would suffer when they moved the tax bands.
They calculated that the poorest workers would be the least likely to desert them as they think that they won't dare vote for anybody else. They know the middle classes have been hit on many other fronts over the years and decided to try to win their vote back by taxing workers on lower wages instead.
To take money from those who most need it and give it to those that don't need it quite as much is a disgrace. Especially in the era of rising bills for EVERYTHING!
Well the local elections are coming up, and I've a feeling that labour are going to feel the anger of every decent person that knows that this tax fiddle was unfair.

Well mum got her first wage slip last night since all of this started, and has found she's paying an extra £10 a month. I should get mine in the next fews days, and I'm not looking forward to opening it one little bit. Lisa x
