Official Women advised to drink NO alcohol when pregnant.

Advice on drinking during pregnancy is tightening up

Women should not drink any alcohol during pregnancy, NHS adviser the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) has said.
It brings NICE in line with government advice and replaces previous guidance saying small daily amounts were fine.

However, NICE concedes there is no evidence to support the change.

What do you think. Despite the fact there's no scientific foundation, it's best to err on the side of caution? Or more so called 'expert' advice with no foundation. Do you feel that a glass of wine can be good thing for relaxation?

    Have your say.

well I'm not usually one for such a discussion but ill throw my two pence in:

your only up-duff for so long. Can you not lay off the suds for just a few months to stay cautious enough to make every effort possible to ensure baby is not affected? If you really cant (and ur a bit of a booze-hound) then the odd glass of "low alcohol", such as wine or beer (not absinthe or aftershock) should be the max.

    Pence entered. :O)

An interesting part of this research stated that women should not drink at all for the first three months of pregnancy.

Now from experience not many women even know they are pregnant until a month after conception, it's only when things don't happen as they should relating to monthy cycles that tests are taken etc.

When man carries baby I'll agree with man When woman has carried baby I'll listen to her too!

Any carrying mother and mother to child when born is different.

If only we did EVERYTHING by the book huh! I think getting wasted is a whole different ball game from one or two glasses now & then! I had the odd drink whist pregnant & spoke to MW about this conflicting information - she was not concerned & in fact whist this CAME OUT the MWs were still handing out leaflets that suggested 1-2 is FINE!

Woman have been doing this for years - carrying babies! Fedup of things being rammed hard down peoples throats making new mothers to be very stressed and confused by the lack of proof in the conflicting information they easily throw around.

I'm quite fedup of warnings for the maybes causing choas everywhere instead of providing medical evidence.

A MW also said the odd cigeratte is better than going from 40 to 0 and pulling your hair out.

According to possibilities woman should not drink before having a child either so everyone put your glasses down JUST INCASE.

Peanut butter is a no no if you or your partner have food allergies

I'm getting annoyed with all this - you shouldn't drink, fine. You might not do any harm by drinking but best avoid it, fine. Just don't change the guidelines every two months and keep scaring women about their bodies, and try to make us feel guilty about being anything other than perfect baby incubators for 9 months.
