Just seen on the news that all kids will be weighrd at school now and if they dont hit the right weight that the gorvernment want then youv'e had it. After the school weighing you will be sent a letter with the outcome and if your child is in their opinion overweight then you will be expected to deal with it.
The bare face cheek of this government is outrageous.
Gordon Brown is a big chap. howz about we all send him a letter saying he is overweight and needs to loose a few pounds. see how he likes it then.
enough is enough to fat letters

Good point well made. We were talking about this just yesterday. I think Parliment is mostly technically obese.
Forever telling people they're eating drinking and smoking too much just makes people want to eat drink and smoke too much!!!
There is a problem with increasing waistlines just look at America. It's about education. It won't happen overnight.

I can see your point, but..... i see loads of kids who are really too big and it can't be good for them. They usually have big parents too that can't see anything wrong with it. But surely we can all agree that its not healthy for the child and something should be done, what i don't know.
- 10-23-2007 10:07 AM #4stacey404GuestI had a thought thismorning when i was watching the wright stuff and they were saying how much money kids got for lunch and how they waste it all on burgers and chips.
What a load of rubbish, when i was at school me and my mates all went halves and brought a packet of fags and a 10p packet of puffs crisps lol.
I know this aint changed much since my day coz the kids who hang around down my shops at lunch time, are always asking people to buy them fags.

Don't get me wrong. I totally agree. It's sooo important with the rubbish that's available nowadays.
I just wonder the benefit of telling a parent who sees their kids every day that their kid is fat via an annual letter. I feel it's kind of stating the obvious. I'm not too comfortable with a letter. It kind of categorises the kid. Word will spread and bullying will follow. And what about a big boned 4ft soon-to-be-rugby international. I wonder the schools sending the letters are clued up enough to work out what's fat and what's not. It's a can of worms.
The trick is to educate the importance of the healthy diet and exercise. Putting facilities out there will help, basically prevent the bulge in the first place.
Not saying that will be easy. There's some pretty ignorant parents in my generation, as for the next -
Just think these headline grabbing ideas are mostly a waste of space and rarely the answer.

Tell you what gets my goat while were on the subject is those dim wit parents etc that were feeding children burgers and fries through the school railings when it came into force that the healthier diet by Jamie Oliver was to be implemented and the ****ging off he got for it too !! Some parents are just down right pathetic
Saying 'Id rather my kids eat junk than nothing at all, errrrm excuse me but if they are hungry they will eat healthy food and they have probably never tasted it to be able to make a choice in the first place!!

i bet all those who didn't complain when the government decided it was in our best interests to try and bann smoking are kicking themselves now - the slope is getting more slippery by the day!
the trouble is now the government knows it can walk all over people and get away with it now. From their point of view it deflects any pressure to do something about the biggest problem britain has - alcohol - which suits them since its also one of the biggest revenue earners!]

With you 100% Loz. Scary isn't it. The front they have. I know people can argue Jamie's in it for the publicity but at the end of the day, getting more money for healthier school grub is a fantastic thing.
I don't really think those people passing crap through the fence could care less if they received a 'your kid is overweight' letter. I don't know how you educate them as they think they've got it all sooooo sussed.
The prob is, you've got to bring this type of person on board without seeing to be controlling and constantly preaching. The governent just hasn't got the balance right.
I'm waffling and stating the obvious.
