But until the tories mentioned raising inheritance tax to £1m Labour wouldn't touch it. Now you can bet your bottom dollar they will now. Not that many of us will be paying this tax, but getting rid of stamp duty for first time buyers is another great move. Goes to show that things can happen that will make some people's life better. Who pays? Rich foreigners doing business in our country. This is a bit of a turnaround isn't it?

This goes to show that party policies can make a difference - albeit just to put the pressure on the government. Labour (just like the tories did) have become complacent and the great thing to come out of the past week is the fact we've finally got an opposition party again and about time too. I well remember how bad the tories were .

p.s. Interest rates were kept down to keep credit cheap. Hence the probs. As a country we've never seen debt like it. Soon we're going to be paying for it. Short term ism from Gordon Brown.

I think Brown knows the economy is going to pot. The housing market is in decline and personal & national debt is out of hand and it can't carry on increasing (debt get the economy going for the past 10 years). Therefore by calling an election now he might be able voted in before everybody gets peed off when the pain bites.

The prob for him is, the Tory's had a good week last week in their conference with some great policies being announced.

I'd like to have an election. I never voted from Brown last election (no-one did) and think some of this government's policies suck!
I bet Brown wishes he'd had that election.
