Official The tories to reward Marriage - a good move?

All married couples could receive a tax break worth £20 a week under proposals to be unveiled by a Conservative policy group today. The conservatives are offering a package that could cost £6billion

Do you think that the problems with society nowadays will be helped by encouraging marriage? Labour argue that it discriminates against non-married people but is it the governments responsibility to look after society as a whole?

Do you think that more marriage and two parent families would benefit society? What else can be done to fix the so called 'broken society'?

    Have your say.

The trouble these days is the fact that there are to many 1 parent families around.

This country has lost all family and moral values since Labour got in power and decide to royaly screw this country up.

Marriage is important & families need to stay together, trouble is people give up and the first sign of trouble. Divorce has been made to easy and far to quick.

I know single mums and im not having digs at them but i do know alot of people who just gave up with no effort to make it work. Kids need bothe parent and for those who argue they dont, well todays society proves this. Go back 15 years ago and it wasnt half as bad as it is now.

Teachers also need power back as they have to sit back and arnt allowed to contoll these unruly kids.

    Bring back the caine

bring back bobbys on the beat

get rid of this pathetic rule for not being able to smack your own kids

Stop protecting kids who steal & hurt people by saying thre to young.

I could go on & on and on but i wont.

well said! Also this latest idea of forcing single parents back into work once the child is 12 is going to make it even worse. Just when kids need the imput of parents they are going to be forced apart. As usual its all about gimicks - parents will be ffforced into ork then fined when their children fail to attend school despite being forced into a situation where they can't ensure they go to school because they've been forced into work. Then when the kids grow up with no values or morals through lack of parental imput its the parents who'll be blamed for not bringing them up properly - Not the government that is forcing families apart! Rather than rewarding marriage wouldn't they be better off trying to keep families as a unit or in the case of single parents ensuring that teenagers get input from at least one parent not forcing them apart so the government can play number games

Surely single parents are the ones that need the help considering they only have one income?

im very much for marraige and all that so for that anything that tries to re establish values is a good thing
but there are 2 types of single parents the ones who have been married and divorced and the ones who just sleep around with the intention of getting pregnant a free house and benefits
many single parents find its not their fault they are in the situation they are in i have a couple of friends who have been married and are now single parents thanks to their rotten hubbies both with kids one was abusive no child should ever have to see that

How are they rewarding marriage when the latest idea is to give the same rights to co-habiting couples as married couples when they split up i.e. 50% share of home etc. The Tories are talking nonsense!

I can see it now, "Honey, I know you had an affair, but I'm willing to make it work so we can get £20!".

Also, what I don't get is why the Tories even have a say in what goes on considering it's labour that runs the country. I've never understood that.

Yeah it was hard & it was seriously unpleasent for most people.

What everyone forgot is why tories had such a crap reign! because of what the dictator party did to the country in the previous term.......

They had to close the non profitable cole mines which were draining our economy..

Im torie through and through but i hope and pray we dont get in next time, because we will have to clear alll this labour mess up again.
