Official How to get AOL for cheaper! Yep pay less. Mini Mini Blog

I know I should have done this a long time ago, but better late than never.

At home we're on AOL. I know everybody will damn AOL but I've never had a problem with them. I know loads of people that use the AIM and I've been with them since 1997 and therefore it would be a nightmare to lose our @aol.com email addresses.

    Anyway....

We've been paying £24.99 per month for 2mb broadband for far too long.

Last week, I called them and said this to them:

"I've got Sky calling me almost every week offering free broadband and I'm paying AOL £24.99 per month. I obviously want to go for the best possible deal and therefore can you give me your best price."

The person knew exactly where I'm coming from and put me through to cancellations (though I never asked for them. Cancellations are obviously the ones that can deal with negotiations).

The best I was hoping for was a reduced package price - perhaps £15.00 per month. What then cancellation person offered straight away was a new 8mb package for £9.99 per month. So basically 4x the speed for £14.99 per month less.

The condition was that I took the AOL phone package, which is free and actually a better package for us given that it's free weekend and evening calls. (I'm with BT at the min).

So in summary, if you're an AOL customer, and paying quite a bit for broadband.......make that call ASAP!

I rang BT last month to get ours reduced.

They offered me a cheaper rate and also 8mb. Seeing as they provide my broadband and phoneline you'd think they'd know that I can only receive 1mb maximum due to my location wouldn't you.
