Question When is it ok to talk about Christmas/shops going Christmas-sy

Lol ok so going around the shops, the Christmas decorations and items have definitely started to appear - there was tinsel wrapped around the check outs in Poundland yesterday and Lidl's have Christmas themed catchy slogan posters 'A Lidl bit of magic' *groan* etc.

I was talking about it to my parents who said that one company were giving away free Christmas trees as some kind of promotion last month, only they received so many complains from people saying its way too early for Christmas trees or anything Christmas-sy that they had to abandon the competition and issued an apology

This got me thinking - when do you feel its ok for shops to go all Christmas-sy etc? I'm fine with it now as we're into November. My mums birthday is in late October and I don't like to see anything much Christmas related until thats over with personally but now its November, guy fawkes night is over with etc. so im ok with it - I suppose just because there's no other obvious event between now and then, to buy for or look forward to. Infact, I just bought a box of Christmas cards yesterday, so it seems I'm starting to plan now and I feel ok about that lol...I need to buy something for one of my best friends who lives in Europe, to give me time to prepare that and mail it with a card in late November so I can be sure she gets it next month

What are your thoughts about this? am I thinking about it way too early or is it better to start thinking and plan things out early on, as long as its not like 4-6 months beforehand, that would be a little excessive!.

Well when I was holiday, Grantown-on-Spey had their town Christmas lights up (not on) and this was only 25th October. Not sure how long they'd been up for. That did seem a bit early. I don't think our town ones are up yet.

I think the shops going Christmassy early is just to encourage sales. I don't mind it really but by the time Christmas comes along it's kinda lost its appeal

I used to work in a Pound Shop and yeah, we put our stuff up as soon as stock came in inorder to 'show what we have for sale'... well annoying.

I have my advent calendar stuck up already (ha ha)... I don't think there is a 'right time', it's whenever you want.

My mum bought me a little Liverpool FC Christmas Tree which I have put up NOW. It's all good.

Personally, I start to feel 'Christmassy' once the clocks have turned back. The early darkness brings me feelings of Christmas... so then I start to think and talk about it.

Though, my boss ain't too happy with me singing X-Mas songs at work already!!! lol (and that's not JUST because i'm a bad singer) :P

Lol funny you should say that, I had Christmas songs stuck in my head yesterday I think I heard one on TV or something...that was getting on my wick too!. I don't have an advent calendar but we found one for our dog in a card shop on Saturday and snapped it up, we'd been looking for one for a couple of weeks lol

Awwww, I used to love buying advent calendars for my cats. Though for some reason they didn't like some of the treats inside of them. I had 4 cats and all 4 of them wouldn't eat certain ones :S

I might handmake my hamster (Rango) one... LOL!!! (he'll sleep through X-Mas anyways... he's never fricken awake)

Ohhhhh!!! Done most of my shopping today. Spent £140 in Argos (had my £200 vouchers come the other day)... 'Cause I spent over £100 I got a £10 gift card... YAY!!!

I was buying for kids... It was awful. I even had to ring my mum up to ask her can 3-year olds tell the time yet... she just laughed at me

I'm not too good with kiddie type things... so I was walking round like a headless chicken. Managed to sort it though... can't go wrong with colouring pencils and colouring books

Soooo many Nieces to buy for and, believe it or not, i'm an onlychild. LOL!! :O

My niece and nephew are making me learn everything. Nephew will be 3 just after Christmas but got him Pop-Up Pirate for Christmas which is age 4+. I'm sure he'll be happy enough playing it himself.

But no, he isn't anywhere near learning the time. He thinks everything that happened in the past was yesterday and if we say 'no not yetsterday', he'll say '4 weeks ago?'

Kids are the easiest to buy for It's the adults i'm having trouble with!
