Default Learning to drive = AARGGGHH!!!

Needed somewhere to rant... so you might see me post in this section once a week after each of my lessons

Have had 14-hours of lessons so far and last week I though I was getting somewhere, only to be knocked back this week when attempting 'parallel parking'

My clutch control was all over the place and my instructor kept nagging at me about 'reference points'.... it's hard to steer, keep cluth control, keep looking about, look for reference points AND listen to my instructor going on - ALL AT THE SAME TIME!!!

I'm just feeling really frustrated at the moment and I get angry at myself causing me to make MORE mistakes... then it's just a vicious circle.

lol making me looking forward to starting lessons myself. Just a little left to save up so that I can pre-book ten lessons and that's me off. I've been out in a car though to try and learn the basics, I just cry when I don't do it right so I'm sure you're not as bad as me! Feel free to rant, saves driver aggression when you're on the road!

Lol. I've already cried TWICE in lessons.

One time I stopped in the middle of the road and refused to carry on driving... I took my seat belt off and was like "That's it, don't want to do it anymore"

Another time... my instructor took me onto the main road when I wasn't 'mentaly' ready... I freaked out and started pressing everything, the window wipers even came on at one point. When I parked up he was like "How do you think that went?", I was all like "NOT GOOD, I am quite annoyed youmade me go on the main road when I wasn't ready.

Ha ha. How he hasn't punched me yet I don't know... I would well be annoyed with teaching me by now.

I was like that for a while doing my driving lessons, i would get so upset and angry with myself. I dreaded lessons and felt like learning to drive was impossible!! ITS DOES PASS !!

I have my driving test on wednesday and fingers crossed I should be ok but when i look back from where I am now It's unreal how much you will improve! Stick at it and im sure you will be fine...I now LOVE driving and can never wait to get behind the wheel. GOOD LUCK XX

Good luck with your tests ladies I've been through a very long learner driver ummm time (or whatever you call it), it took me many test attempts before I passed but I got there in the end. Infact when I eventually passed, it ended up as a story in the local paper lol it was that big a deal haha but I got there and so will all of you, im sure

Thanks guys. It does make me feel better hearing that i'm not the only one struggling. At times I feel like I am just NEVERgoing to get it. But reading what you lot have put it makes me feel a bit better about it all.

Got another lesson tomorrow. Going to try and go into it with a more positive attitude. Hope I don't mess up my parallel parking again.

Good Luck on your driving test Loz.

You'll get there, heck if I can do it almost anyone can lol for me it wasn't so much the ability to drive as the whole psychological aspect of sitting the practical test that set me back...I actually used hypnotherapy to help me with that. I was so nervous and stressed as I was driving, I'd worry so much I'd almost make myself make mistakes by over thinking everything and that was my downfall my instructor would say if I just drove like I did during a regular lesson, only during the test instead, I'd have passed multiple test attempts ago, so...yeah...lol but of course I had bad days and some lessons I'd make a mistake and let it get to me and feel really frustrated afterwards. I think women are more prone to self criticism...still, practice makes perfect! best of luck with your next lesson

OMG Izzy, that EXACTLY what my instructor says.

He reckons I "over think things" leading me to forget to concentrate on other things, leading to mistakes being made. I then over think the mistake that I have made and then mess up for the rest of my lesson.

He says; "Learn from the mistake and move on"... I try, but I just get soooo annoyed at the mistake I have just made that I can't stop thinking about it.

Sometime, I don't think I made a mistake... so that then makes me annoyed that it happened.... ARRGGH!!!

Need to RELAX. Got a lesson tomorrow, so no doubt i'll be ranting again... LOL!!!

Oh yeah, I've heard of people who were so sure they made a dangerous or serious fault that means an automatic failure that they drive badly for the rest of the test just to get it over with and it turns out when they thought they'd failed it was just a minor fault but they failed later on because of their sloppy driving having thought they'd already failed *doh* so def. don't over think it, stay positive and, well, you never know(?!) which is easier said than done, honestly I know!. I'm not convinced these blocks of intensive crash course type lessons are great myself, I think you need lots of time, to keep practicing on and off 1-2 hours a week over maybe 6-12 months at least, personally anyway thats what I think but idk... im sure you'll get there in the end anyway

I ain't had a rant in a while about my driving lessons... and you know why...???

... Because my driving instructor for the past 2-WEEKS has cancelled my lessons.

First week because he was ill... Second week was because the car has been having trouble and he needs to take it the garage.

Sooooo... errmmm.... YEAH!!! Don't say much for my driving when my instructor has cancelled it 2-weeks on the trot... Lol!!!

TBH, reckon i've forgot half of what he has taught me now. I can't have breaks in my learning because i've got such a bad memory... my next lesson (i predict) is NOT going to go well.
