    Default Lost iPhone disaster.

The 32gb iPhone 3gs that I just paid for the screen repair on, has been given a ride on the roof of the car and will probably never be seen again.

Yep, while buckling the kids in this morning, she put the iPhone on top of car. Only remembered this fact when she got home.

Tried ringing it but going straight onto answerphone (strange). So either it's in a no signal area (unlikely), or it's fallen into the road and been crushed.

Not insured on it, and reluctant to use house insurance.

What a pain. For work reasons, we both need iPhones really. Have already had 02 block it. Hoping somebody hands it into the police station, but highly unlikely.

I must admit, there is silver linings here - Imagine that it was the 4G - Then its crying time!

Eeek! Surely the kids should be put on the roof while Clara safely puts the iphone in the car as first priority.

    Hope it turns up.

    Haha. You're right. I'll re-write her procedures.

Slept on it and decided to go down the insurance route. Just sent proof of purchase off to the insurance company by email. Apparently they can't buy apple products so they issue a cheque. This will be for £549 less excess which is £75.00.

So what to do? Shall I get her a Blackberry with the cash, just to teach her a lesson?

Or an iPhone 4, then cash in the favour in the future.

    Hmmmmmmm

You know I wonder if it's possible to change the remainder of the iphone 3gs contract so it's minimum monthly payments. Say £20 per month. This over the 12 months would equal £240.

Then go to orange and take out a new contract for £35 per month and get the iPhone 4 handset for just £200.

Sooooo effectively we're buying out the o2 contract for £200, and £200 for the iPhone 4 = £400.

Surely that's better than spending the £474 from the insurance company on another 3gs?

Then again, the contract will be an extra year.

    Hmmmmmmmm

    Decisions Decisions.

(Alternatively, don't suppose anybody knows where we can pick up an iPhone 4 without contract? Selling for silly money?). O2 don't do them unless in contract.

    Managed to salvage the disaster.

Insurance company sending a cheque for £463 (price of replacement iPhone 3gs after the excess is taken off).

Instead of buying the replacement handset we're going to run down the O2 contract. This will cost £150 for the 11 months (a bit long winded as have to call every month to lower the tarrif until it's only £10 per month).

Getting the iPhone 4 32gb from Orange for £189. This contract will be £30 per month. 600 mins, but also unlimited landline calls, text and data. A damn good contract really.

So all said and done, after the £150 to run down the O2 contract and the £189 for the new phone, we're actually £124 better off!

While doing this, I asked Orange to move my contract to the same price-plan which they did out of courtesy (the contract I agreed to a few weeks ago was only 200 texts per month. Win win.
