    Default Marketing Calls

Do you ever get those calls when there is noone on the other end of the phone ? These are marketing companies trying to find out the best time to call you (i.e.when you will be at home), If you get a call like this continously press the hash key on your phone. This confuses the system and wipes your number from their database.

Failing that try http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/ but make sure you read the registration procedure properly, as doing this may prevent you from receiving calls from companies that you do want. Lisa x

We have registered with the TPS so we don't get many of those calls now, however they do sometimes generate random numbers and when you answer then your number is logged in their database. If they ever do call and speak to you and you are registered with the TPS all you have to do is mention this and they scamper off like frightened rabbits as they can be fined heavily !

That is if they care... one guy phoned me and said it was a random number so I said I was registered with TPS and he said he didn't care - not like it was going to affect him

Companies that do this or promote through these methods need to be shut down.

Trouble is as fast as legislation changes to protect you from this i.e TPS, then they are quick to find loopholes i.e random generating of numbers...the only other thing you can do is (if you're with BT) have it set so you cannot receive annonymous calls, but this will give you problems whenever anyone witholds their number !!!

I'm in one of those moods.

How about the next time it happens to any of us, we politely go along with it. Get the name of the company they are calling to promote, and a phone number of a manager.

Post it here, we all call them and give them grief! (And withhold the number of course)

Positive action from the Frugaller community. Might not stop them doing it but it would feel good.

Just keep saying you're reeeeeeeeeeeeeaaallllyyy interested and then keep getting sidetracked and having to put down the phone. May as well make them pay for the call.
