In an incredible move the Ministry of defense have allowed the ex-captives to sell their story.
I think this sends out the wrong message and is a dangerous move.
I don't blame the induviduals. They're not well paid and the money will help them and the families. But the MOD should not have allowed it.
Does it mean that any millitary person can sell a story directly after a campaign? Will soldiers be thinking about selling a story during a campaign?
What about the families who are losing loved ones on an almost daily basis.
Very strange move. Anybody else any thoughts on this?
Navy Captives sell their story. right or Wrong?

the MOD said that they only give permission to sell stories after exceptional happenings, the media are going to get thier story one way or another, why not straight out of the horses mouths rather than from a cousin/aunt/uncle/paper shop owner who once employed the soldiers as a paper boy? i cant see where its wrong in my opinion

I don't think it should have been allowed personally.
I read today about the woman who was taken captive (can't remember her name, excuse my ignorance) claiming she had been stripped, lied to and told she would never see her kids again. I can't imagine the Iranians sitting back and letting them be spoken about in this way.
Big problems will come of this I think.
If you are a member of the military, it is your duty to serve your country. You should do your duty and not expect to make money by selling stories

I say WRONG
As someone else basically said that I totall agree with;
They should not be able to sell their stories & the marine it goes against everything they stand for never mind the fact I think it shows total disrepect for any soldiers that were captured, tortured & executed.

I don't think they should be able to sell their stories either, some previous hostages have written a book, in time I think this is ok, but at the moment I think its too soon and as often they as they say they were mistreated, I don't see any of them showing all their bruising from beatings etc, they were prisoners and as a prisoner would expect to be handcuffed, like joe bloggs would in a police station.
I think it is totally wrong to sell their story

I cant see anything wrong with it personally......Iranians exploited them on the tv and made it look as though they were looking after the navy personnels to AGAIN make themselves look good to their followers and people. Everyone should know the real story and why not make a bit of money for their families etc after all they have been through.
- 04-09-2007 07:32 PM #7stuffitGuestSurprising that when they arrived back in the UK Faye Turney was the only one who didn't want the reunion with her partner and daughter filmed for public consumption, sighting that she "wanted to move on" - now all of a sudden you can't open a paper or put on the tv without seeing parts of her interviews with the sun or trevor McDonald - Money talks.

What did they do wrong? They handcuffed them and locked them in a cell - exactly the same as would happen here.
The media have to exaggerate the stories else who would want to buy the paper?
I've not read much on it in all honesty, but what I have read is how a prisoner should be treated. They haven't been tortured like our infamous Lancashire regiment imposed on innocent Iraqi civilians.
Instead of selling their story, they should be at home with family making the most of their time together.
I wonder how many of our servicemen are now wishing they'd been on that boat?
I also find it extremely disrepectful to all our servicemen/women that have lost their lives.
If Iran take any more of our personnel hostage, do we really think they'll be treated in such a humane way after all this? I doubt it.
Britain's turn for propaganda is how I see it.

Good points. Also did anybody see them clutching their goody bags in the airport photo shoot. If I were so mis treated I don't imagine I would want anything from my captors.
More importantly, typical of the news coverage we get in this country at the minute. This UK man released from Guantanamo after 5 years in captivity with NO TRIAL!
Which is worse? What's more, there are still many more being held there. America and the UK should be ashamed.
According to the Times, even when they decided he should be released (without charge) he was flown home blindfolded and ears covered.
Innocent and de-humanised!
I think we're all getting a bit wise to the propeganda and spin we're being fed.
