Default Beat the stamp price rise

Stamp prices are rocketing by up to a staggering 17% next month.

Standard first class prices will climb from 36p to 39p and second class stamps from 27p to 30p from Monday 6 April. The biggest price leap is for large-letter first class stamps - up 9p from 52p to 61p.

Yet stock up now and provided the stamps only say 1st or 2nd (not the price itself), you’ll inflation-proof your postage costs as they’ll still be valid after April’s increases.

What’s more, High Street chemist Superdrug is offering 5% off all first class stamp sales in-store until Tuesday 24 March, though there’s a 72-stamp limit per transaction.

makes me angry really, they go up every year (and remember that going up 17% is when you think about it, rather a decent raise) and yet does the service get any better? Do you get anything more for your money?

and bearing in mind, just the 3p one (2nd class standard) affects me by about £6 a month, i think its taking the p. a little -

I've nominated this post as a Great contribution.
    Well done and thank you.

(20p is yours if you claim within 7 days).

    Great advice.

If often wonder why the hell we can't maintain a service in this day and age. If it's been possible for decades to offer almost 100% next day delivery, for a small amount of money, why not now? Shouldn't things get better as technology and systems get better? Why should the service get worse? Why more expensive?

I'll tell you why I think it happens. Too many fat cats involved taking huge amounts of salary and pension and not really giving a toss about the service (or lack of) that they then leave behind.

I know there's competition from other carriers and email, but more and more of us shop online and rely on delivery so the Royal mail should be in a cracking position now.

    Rant over.
