    Default house prices

think we all know what a rip they are right now i feel for those struggling to get on to the property ladder the deposits they have to find are impossible

in 1992 we bought our first home for £25,000
in1975 the previous owners bought that house for £9k
in 2005 we sold it for £81,000 it was worth £90k but we wanted out of there so dropped the price
and that was a bog standard 1920 terraced housed

i know the prices are slowly dropping but i dont think they will by too much

I don't even want to think about what I'm gonna do when I move out of my parents house.

I would love to stay in Devon, in particular the area I am in now, but I just can't see it happening.

A 1 bedroom apartment is £132,500 in my town with any 3 bedroom houses being over £200,000.

Another thing is bloody second home owners, I shouldn't grumble as they give my dad a lot of work as a builder but the majority of the houses around here a vacant until the summer months.

Most of our local estate agents have offices in London!

Phil's the other side of it. Young people not on the ladder yet. It's crazy. We were quite late getting on the ladder, but started with a little 3 bed detached - £72k. Wasn't that long ago either, perhaps 8 years. To get something equivalent now would require a massive mortgage for the average first time buyer (if the banks will lend it). Really tricky times.

But 2nd home owners - now that's an issue that needs sorting out. Particularly in tourist / rural areas. Just seems wrong.

Just listened to a good 5-live debate on mortgages calloo. Some of the arrangement fees the banks are charging at the min is madness.

It makes you wonder if it's essential for them to do it or whether it's just protecting profit margins. It just takes for one bank to say we're not going to rip you off.

    Hopefully things will settle soon.

    Scary.

If you're reading Mr Darling, I'm giving you a deadline of November to sort this out. Oh and a whole % off interest rates would be good too.

With a "normal" job nowadays suxh as standard office or warehouse work, unlees you kill yourself with working hours, not much chance of buying a good house.

Wish i'd been around when the houses were dirt cheap in comparison to now.

The high mortgage percent not allowing anyone to own any property and always in debit.
