Angry Energy prices rise here faster than anywhere else!

UK energy bill rises 'double' EU
Consumer Focus says firms appear to be raising prices 'with impunity'

Energy prices in the UK have increased twice as fast as the European Union average, according to latest figures.
Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development statistics showed gas and electricity bills rose 29.7% in the past year compared with 15% in the EU.
Government watchdog Consumer Focus said UK customers were being hit "faster and harder" than those in Europe.

Why do I feel that we're ripped off at every turn. Given the choice between spending billions on and olympics, or sorting out our fuel storage problems (and bringing the price down), I know which I'd go for!!!

To counteract rising energy prices,do what i do,change your suppliers about every 2 months or so,by doing the switch via cashback sites,Just go for the highest payer each time.My highest cashback was £125 from Scottish power. The lowest cashback would be about £40 at a minimum, but is usually much better.

    hi
    i thought of doing that.....
the thing is i was always worried about being charged by the supplier for leaving!!!!
and when i looked into it, looked like it takes weeks for the change overs and cashback tracking!!

Hi D,only just seen that you asked a question of me regarding this.
The thing to do,is always go in for a tarriff that has no exit penalties, these days a lot of the tarriffs do have penalties, but in general the standard online tarriff is always safe to go for.If in doubt, call the inteneded supplier beforehand with an enquiry about exit penalties, but don't let them sign you up over the phone or you will lose out on your cashback.I generally find that it takes about 5 - 6 weeks for the change to take place and usually any cashback is validated shortly after that.Once i know that the cashback is secured,i then start the process again, looking for the best cashback and then apply for the switch.Lately I have been switching back and forth between Scottish power and Eon,as they have given the most cashback. As for cashback tracking,if after a week my cashback has failed to track,i contact the intended supplier, tell them i have changed my mind and cancel the application, then try again. In the most part, this doesn't happen often, but it has just happened to me with a Scottish power switch,so i have cancelled and am about to try again.
I reckon that with all going well, you can do approx 6 switches in a year, which means £££'s in your pocket. The only downside is having to accept the new tarriff charges each time you switch, whereas if you stick with a supplier it is possible to do a fix, however i believe that the cashback easily overweighs this.If you are a light user of energy, doing the switches is easily the big winner.
