    Default Laptop

My laptop has just died a very long slow painful death so need a new one if I'm ever to give out mod picks

Not bothered about OS (Vista or W7)
    250GB min hard drive
Needs to be around 15.6" (don't want a small one)
    Minimum 2 Ghz / 4GB RAM
    Needs WiFi
    Min 2 USB ports

I don't mind refurbished laptops. Anything up to £500

If someone could have a search would really help me out. This PC doesn't let me do anything fast

    D

Might go for this one. Huge hard drive, 2GB less RAM but the rest of the features pretty similar and £20 cheaper

Ended up ordering it. Not received a dispatch email so keeping fingers crossed it does arrive tomorrow!

I checked for PC World discounts and couldnt find any but could have saved £16.50 if I'd ordered it on Dixons

So if anyone is interested : HP Pavilion G6-1189SA Refurbished 15.6'' Laptop - Sonoma Red | Dixons |

Discount voucher code : LAPREF5 (ends 21st Dec)

Although I will be getting a £50 voucher with the PC World one which I can use on a £200 spend in March so mum can save £50 on a laptop for herself.

Oh PS. Ace, I checked for a discount on the home cinema but wasn't any

I'm also now looking for a new laptop - mine is getting old and has a few quirks since it nearly died a few weeks back - family reckon I ought to look at getting a new one. I'm hoping to get a decent make, although I'd rather avoid HP from what I've heard and I hear Acer aren't always that great(?) that might be unfair though, I don't know I've never had their machines but I've read a dodgy review about them, so, I don't know. I've had bad experiences with Toshiba too, so I'd rather avoid them too. I'd also prefer a hard drive of 250gb or over as well, a pentium processor (not Celeron if possible), a RAM of 4gb or more would be great, though 2gb wil probably do and Windows 7 would also be great, though I can live with Vista. I'm looking at spending up to £450 at the most probably... I saw on Comet they were selling a originally £899.99 Asus laptop with a great spec with £500 off for £399.99 in the sale! sale ends Tuesday and its 'temporarily out of stock' so I doubt I'd be able to get that before it goes back up in price but anything at all comparable would be amazing lol wishful thinking but you never know, right?... and I know im picky - sorry

I'm not sure what ASUS is like. It kinda seems like a cheap brand though going by the prices. The reason I don't like Advent is because the pin broke so I couldn't charge it and there's no easy way to fix it.

Do you mind a refurbished laptop? You've still got a years warranty. You just don't get disks or booklets with it - it usually prompts you to make a disk so just a couple of blank disks needed.

I don't think Asus are that cheap - the original RRP of that reduced laptop was £899.99(!). Acer are pretty cheap but Asus make some cutting edge machines I *think*, they specialise in Netbooks too I believe(?).

I think you have to make recovery disks from blank disks even with non-refurbished laptops, at least with my Vaio I had to burn it to a couple of CDs, as they were used to fix it when it went 'wonky' last month. You rarely get hard copies of manuals these days... I also thought with refurbished laptops that you only get a 3 or 6 month warranty? a year is pretty good, though I've only ever bought new to date.
